Chestnut soup as the name suggests a velvety smooth soup made from chestnut fruit and served with Portuguese bread. This dish is very easy to prepare and is not at all time consuming. You could use pre-cooked or vacuum packed chestnuts to prepare this soup. It is a great soup for winters since it has warm properties. A very popular variant of this soup is made with mushroom and is creamy in texture.

This English soup has its origin in England and is also  popular world over. It is eaten during winter since it has warming effect on the system. Moreover, the tree bears fruit in this season. It is popular during Christmas since November and December can be cold and a warm chestnut soup would be just the right thing to eat.

 

Ingredients, Preparation Method and Serving Style

The ingredients required for this soup include Celery, carrot, onion, garlic, chestnut, chicken stock, fresh thyme, Chervil and butter. All the ingredients except chestnut, stock and thyme are mixed together with butter and stir-fried until it is translucent. It is then allowed to cool and the chestnut soup is ready to be served. This dish can be garnished with Chevril. As an accompaniment,  Portuguese bread can be used. It can also be sprinkled with some fresh thyme and served with croutons. Alternatively, crushed chestnuts can be used for garnishing.

This dish has high nutritional value and is low in calories. One bowl of this soup is quite filling and has around 130 calories. Moreover, chestnuts are loaded with manganese, iron, potassium, magnesium, copper, and phosphorous. It also contains zinc and calcium. These nuts prevents heart risks and low in cholesterol.
