Homestyle Lentil Soup
|Dried lentils||1 Pound|
|Water||6 Cup (96 tbs)|
|Onions||2 Medium, chopped|
|Carrots||4 , sliced cubed or trimmed in the shape of round balls|
|Whole black peppercorns||10|
|Cured ham/Canadian bacon||5 Ounce, cut into 1/2 inch cubes (heavily cured)|
|Dry red wine||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Combine all ingredients, except for the wine, in the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low 6 to 8 hours.
Just before serving, stir in the red wine.
Adjust seasonings, if necessary.
Additional water may be added for a thinner consistency.
