Hearty Hamburger Soup

Ingredients
  Butter 3 Tablespoon
  Onion 1 Medium
  Ground beef 1 1⁄2 Pound
  Canned tomatoes 28 Ounce (1 Can Of 1 Pound And 12 Ounce)
  Canned consomme 31 1⁄2 Ounce (3 Cans Of 10 1/2 Ounce Each)
  Water 21 Ounce (2 Cans)
  Carrots 4 Medium
  Bay leaf 1
  Celery tops 4
  Parsley sprigs 6
  Thyme 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Peppercorns 10
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
Directions

Melt butter in soup kettle.
Toss in coarsley chopped onion.
Cook onions until limp, not brown.
Add ground beef and stir around until it looses raw look.
Pour in tomatoes, consomme and water; add scraped quartered carrots, bay leaf, chopped celery tops, parsley, thyme, peppercorns and salt.
Cover and cook over low heat for 45 minutes.
Serve plain or with toast rounds covered with grated Parmesan Cheese.
