Old Fashioned Lentil Soup

Ingredients
  Ham bone 1
  Water 6 Cup (96 tbs)
  Dried lentils 1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs) (From A 1-Pound Package)
  Carrots 4 Medium, pared and sliced
  Onion 1 Large, chopped
  Salt 2 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Bay leaf 1
Directions

1. Combine ham bone, water, lentils, carrots, onion, salt, sugar, pepper and bay leaf in a kettle; cover; bring to boiling; simmer 1 hour, or until lentils are tender.
2. Take out ham bone; strip off bits of meat and add to soup. Remove bay leaf.
3. Ladle soup into heated bowls and serve.
