Winter Cabbage Soup Borscht

Ingredients
  White cabbage head 1 Large
  Sour apples 2 , peeled and cored
  Water 4 Quart
  Oil 2 Tablespoon
  Brown sugar 4 Tablespoon
  White vinegar 4 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Tablespoon
  Sour cream 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

1. Quarter the cabbage through the stem end and cut out the core. Shred cabbage and slice the apples finely. Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil.
2. Heat oil in your soup pot. Add the cabbage and apples and cover with boiling water. Stir in the sugar, vinegar, and salt. Cook until tender, about 45 minutes. Taste when you think it is done and adjust seasonings.
3. To serve, garnish each bowl with a heaping tablespoon of sour cream.
