Autumn Soup

Ingredients
  Ground beef 1 Pound
  Cooking oil 1 Tablespoon (Also Called Salad Oil)
  Chopped onions 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Hot water 4 Cup (64 tbs)
  Cut up carrots 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cut up celery 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cut up potato 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Salt 2 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Meat extract 1 Teaspoon
  Bay leaf 1
  Basil 1 Pinch
  Whole tomatoes 6 (Fresh)
Directions

Brown beef slowly in oil in heavy kettle.
Add onions and cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add remaining ingredients, except tomatoes.
Bring to boil, cover and simmer 20 minutes.
Add tomatoes and simmer 10 minutes more.
When serving, put a whole tomato in each bowl and surround with soup.
