Old Salem Tomato Soup Spiced

Ingredients
  Canned tomatoes 1 Quart (1 Can)
  Hot water 1 Pint
  Sugar 1 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Onion 1⁄2 , chopped
  Soda 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Butter 1 Tablespoon
  Flour 1 Tablespoon
  Bay leaves 2
  Peppercorns 4
  Cloves 4
  Chopped parsley 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Put tomatoes, water, sugar, salt, cloves, peppercorns on to boil.
Put butter into a small saucepan; when it bubbles add onion and parsley, fry five minutes, being careful not to burn it.
Add flour and when well mixed stir into the tomatoes.
Add 1/4 teaspoon soda and more seasoning if needed.
