|All purpose flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Baking powder||4 Teaspoon|
|Granulated sugar||1 Tablespoon|
|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Shredded cheddar cheese||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Milk||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Egg||1 , beaten|
|Sesame seed||1 Tablespoon|
In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Stir in cheese.
In bowl, beat together 3/4 cup (175 mL) milk and egg; add to flour mixture, stirring lightly with fork just until moistened.
Turn dough out onto floured surface and knead gently about 10 times.
Roll pastry into circle about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick.
Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Brush with 2 tbsp (25 mL) milk; sprinkle with sesame seed.
Score into 8 wedges but do not separate.
Bake in 425Â°F (220Â°C) oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
