Basic Scones

Ingredients
  White flour 1 Pound
  Soda bicarbonate 1 Teaspoon
  Cream of tartar 2 Teaspoon
  Butter 3 Ounce
  Milk 1⁄4 Pint
Directions

GETTING READY
1. Preheat the oven at 450°F, 230°C, Gas Mark 8

MAKING
2. In a large bowl, tip in the flour, soda and cream of tartar and sieve well. Then rub in butter in to the flour mixture until the mixture is like breadcrumbs. Add milk to the mixture to make soft dough.
3. Roll the dough out and then cut rounds, and place close together on greased baking sheet to bake for 12 minutes. Cool.

SERVING
4. Serve warm or pack in sixes or dozens in polythene bags to store for later

TIP
To make fruit scones, you can add 1 1/2 oz sugar and 2 oz dried fruit. To make cheese scones, you can add salt and pepper and 3 oz grated cheese.
