Ingredients
  Plain flour 8 Ounce (225 Grams)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 3 Teaspoon
  Margarine 2 Ounce (50 Gram)
  Caster sugar 1 Ounce (25 Gram)
  Milk 1⁄4 Pint (150 Milliliter)
Directions

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 8.
Sieve together the plain flour, salt, baking powder and sugar.
Cut the fat into pieces, and rub into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Make a well in the centre, stir in the milk to make a soft dough.
Knead until smooth on a lightly floured board.
Roll out the dough to about 2 cm (3/4inch) thick.
Cut into rounds using a 5 cm (2 inch) plain cutter.
Place on a baking tray , brush the tops with egg and milk and bake on the third or fourth shelf for ten minutes until well risen and golden brown.
