Orange Date Scones
|All purpose flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1 Tablespoon|
|Sugar||2 1⁄2 Tablespoon|
|Orange peel||1⁄2 Teaspoon, grated|
|Butter/Margarine||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), cut in to chunks|
|Packed pitted dates||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Whipping cream||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
Insert metal blade.
Place flour, baking powder, 2 tablespoons of the sugar, salt, and orange peel in work bowl; process just to combine.
Add butter and process continuously until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Place dates in work bowl.
Reserve 1 tablespoon egg white; then lightly beat remaining eggs and cream in a measuring cup.
With motor running, pour mixture through feed tube and continue processing just until dough begins to hold together.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board; gather into a ball with your hands, then divide in half.
Gently pat each half into a circle about 1/2 inch thick and 6 inches in diameter.
Cut each circle into 4 wedges; place wedges about 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
Brush tops of scones with reserved egg white and sprinkle with remaining 2 teaspoons sugar.
Bake in a 400° oven until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
