These German sausages have been served up for over 500 years, and for good reason -grilled sausages don't get any better than this. Get your barbecue shoes on because you'll be wanting to try this recipe at your next tailgating or backyard party
2 Pound, sliced (Vidalia or Spanish)
1. Prepare the grill.
2. Quickly sear the brats in oil and in a black iron skillet. Cover with sliced onions, and then add your favorite beer to the pan to create some steam.
3. Add some hardwood chunks to the hot coals, cover grill and then slow cook for at least 30 minutes so that the onions take on that sweet smoked flavor.
4. Just before serving, grill the bratwurst.
5.Serve on a fresh grinder/sub bread roll smothered with the smoked onions and your favorite condiments.
