Fruit Sauce

Fruit Sauce is essentially a sauce prepared with one, two or more fruits. There are many different ways to prepare, serve and eat the sauce but what is common is the use of fruits. The taste of the preparation can be sweet or savory, depending upon the ingredients used, how the sauce is to be served and individual preferences. Also, the consistency of the sauce varies based on the aforementioned factors.

The ingredients used for the preparation of the sauce greatly vary, except for water and sugar and salt. Apples, oranges, carrots, grapes, bananas, lemon, lime and passion fruit, to name a few, are the most commonly used ingredients in the preparation of the sauce which is served with various foods and in a variety of different ways. The measurements also vary depending upon the recipe being followed and individual tastes. Cornstarch is also a common ingredient in most versions.

Fruit Sauce is fairly easy to prepare and the general preparation time is about 15 to 18 minutes. The fruits are all peeled and chopped as desired and cooked in water. Sugar and salt are added and the once the mixture has thickened, the sauce is ready to be served.

The sauce is served in a variety of different ways, with numerous dishes and desserts. The sauce can be served hot or warm with preparations like pork roast or the chilled sauce can be served alongside ice cream or some other dessert, or poured all over it.

 

Health and Nutrition Facts Related to Fruit Sauces

Although fruits are generally good for health, there are some fruits which are not suitable for people suffering from certain health problems. Also, depending upon the way the Fruit Sauce is prepared, it can be high in fat and calorie content which makes the preparation an unsuitable one for people who are obese or suffer from diabetes, high cholesterol levels or heart disease.

However, by making a few changes to the recipe, the sauce can be made suitable, albeit in small quantities for these people as well. Only those fruits can be used to make Fruit Sauce which are low in sugar and fat content and artificial sweetener can replace regular sugar.
