Ragout With Piquant Sauce

Ingredients
  Canadian bacon slices 3⁄4 Pound, cut into strips
  Beef round steak 1 1⁄2 Pound, cut into 3 x 0.25 inch strips
  Onions 3 , thinly sliced
  Potatoes 4 , pared and sliced
  Carrots 8 , pared and sliced
  Mayonnaise 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm), minced
  Lemon juice 1 Tablespoon
  Cayenne pepper To Taste
Directions

Arrange bacon strips in an even layer on the bottom of a Dutch oven.
Cover with the beef strips.
Season to taste with salt, pepper, and monosodium glutamate.
Cover with a layer of onions, potatoes, and carrots, adding more seasoning after each layer.
Cover tightly and cook slowly 2 hours, or until vegetables are tender.
Meanwhile, blend the remaining ingredients in a bowl.
Cover and chill.
