Melt the butter in the water with half of the sugar.
In a separate bowl combine the eggs and the remaining sugar with the juice of the lemon.
Add 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
Pour the boiling water, sugar and melted butter into the eggs, sugar, lemon juice and cornstarch and stir over a gentle heat until thickened.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
