Spicy BBQ Sauce With Chipotle Chili

DelectablePlanet's picture
This is a classic style barbecue sauce with the added smoky flavor of chipotles (smoked jalapenos). This BBQ sauce is so quick and easy to make, it's almost a sin to use a bottled one.
Ingredients
  Vegetable oil 2 Teaspoon
Onion 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), minced
  Garlic cloves 2 , pressed
Chipotle chili/1/4 teaspoon chili flakes with a dash of liquid smoke 1 , chopped or 1/4 tsp chili flakes with a dash of liquid smoke
  Adobo sauce 1 Tablespoon
  Apple cider vinegar 1 Tablespoon
  Tamari soy sauce 1 Teaspoon
Frozen orange juice concentrate 1 Teaspoon
  Vegan worcestershire sauce 2 Teaspoon
  Molasses 1 Tablespoon
Tomato sauce 8 Ounce (1 Can)
  Water 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Mince the onion. If you are sensitive to hot chilies, wear gloves to chop the chili.

Warm the oil in a sauce pan over medium high heat. Add the onion and saute until almost caramelized. Squeeze the garlic through a garlic press right into the pan and cook until it's aromatic.

Add the rest of the ingredients except the tomato sauce. Blend well. Add the tomato sauce, mix and cover. Simmer for 5-10 minutes. If it's too thick, add a tablespoon or two of water.

Get grilling!

Its grilling season! Just because you are eating a plant based diet doesn’t mean you have to give up the grill. This sauce tastes great on tofu and tempeh, eggplant and portobello mushrooms. Or just throw a big dollop over your veggie burger. It’s super easy to make and you can make it as spicy as you like.
