Baked Apples With Orange Sauce

Ingredients
  Red apples 6 Large (Firm Variety)
  Granulated sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Water 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Granulated sugar 3 Tablespoon
  Strained orange juice 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Grated orange rind 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Core and pare the apples about 1/3 of the way down from the stem end.
Place in a covered casserole.
Boil the 1 c sugar and the water together for 6 min.
Pour over apples, cover, and bake in a moderately hot oven of 400º F until lender—some apples take as long as 40 min.
