Butter Sauce

Melt 1/2 cup butter in the top of a double boiler.
Gradually add 2 cups sugar and 3/4 cup light cream, stirring constantly.
Place over simmering water and cook, stirring frequently, until sugar is completely dissolved, about 15 minutes.
