Monte Cristo Sandwiches
|Butter/Margarine||4 Tablespoon, softened to room temperature (About)|
|White bread slices||3 (Firm-Textured)|
|Roast chicken slice/Cold roast turkey slices||2 , cold|
|Monterey jack cheese slices/Swiss / cheddar cheese slices||2|
|Egg||1 , lightly beaten|
|Milk||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
Butter bread, 2 slices on 1 side only, 1 slice on both sides.
Lay chicken on a buttered slice, top with doubly buttered slice, cheese, and last slice, buttered side down.
Press together lightly; if you like, trim off crusts.
Mix egg, milk, and salt, dip in sandwich, coating edges as well as sides.
Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet or griddle and brown sandwich over moderately low heat about 2 minutes on each side.
