Monte Cristo Sandwiches

Ingredients
  Butter/Margarine 4 Tablespoon, softened to room temperature (About)
  White bread slices 3 (Firm-Textured)
  Roast chicken slice/Cold roast turkey slices 2 , cold
  Monterey jack cheese slices/Swiss / cheddar cheese slices 2
  Egg 1 , lightly beaten
  Milk 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄8 Teaspoon
Directions

Butter bread, 2 slices on 1 side only, 1 slice on both sides.
Lay chicken on a buttered slice, top with doubly buttered slice, cheese, and last slice, buttered side down.
Press together lightly; if you like, trim off crusts.
Mix egg, milk, and salt, dip in sandwich, coating edges as well as sides.
Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet or griddle and brown sandwich over moderately low heat about 2 minutes on each side.
