Hearty Sausage Sandwich
|Bulk italian sausage||1 Pound|
|Onion||1 Medium, chopped|
|Chopped green pepper||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Garlic||1 Clove (5 gm), minced|
|Cream cheese||8 Ounce, cubed (1 Package)|
|Chopped mushrooms||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Parmesan cheese||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), grated|
|Water||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Dried oregano||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
|Italian bread loaf||1 (Unsliced)|
|Shredded part skim mozzarella cheese||6 Ounce (1 1/2 Cup)|
In a large skillet, cook sausage, onion, pepper and garlic over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink; drain.
Add cream cheese, mushrooms, Parmesan, water and oregano.
Cook and stir until cheese is melted.
Cut bread in half horizontally; hollow out the top and bottom, leaving a 3/4-in.shell (save removed bread for another use).
Place the bread bottom on a baking sheet.
Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella cheese; top with sausage mixture and remaining cheese.
Replace the bread top.
Bake at 3750 for 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.
