Steak Sandwiches With Johnny Appleseed Sauce
|Onion||1 Medium, sliced|
|Salad oil||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Canned applesauce||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Catsup||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Worcestershire sauce||2 Tablespoon|
|Lemon juice||1 Tablespoon|
|Crushed oregano||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Hamburger buns||6 , split, toasted and buttered|
In large skillet, cook onion in hot oil till tender but not brown; add applesauce, catsup, and seasonings.
Heat, stirring occasionally, till bubbling.
Remove from heat; add steaks, turning to coat, and let stand 15 minutes.
Lift out steaks and broil quickly over hot coals, about 1 or 2 minutes per side, brushing with barbecue sauce after turning.
Slip steaks into hot buns, ladling extra sauce on meat.
