Origin of Ham Roll Recipe
Ham Roll or Pork Roll is believed to have been first produced during the time of Battle of Trenton, when minced ham was packed and sold. Thereafter, in 1856 the first commercially known ham roll recipe was created by Taylor, which was kept a secret. This was followed by another pork roll recipe being created by George Washington Case, a farmer in New Jersey, who packaged the ham rolls in corn husks. After a few changes made to ensure the product met the standards of Pure Food and Drug Act, 1906, Taylor marketed his creation as “Taylor’s Pork Roll” and also as “Trenton Pork Roll”. Soon many more versions of the rolled pork entered the market, which of course was ruled out in legal case, in favor of Taylor’s Pork Roll or Ham Roll.
