Cavalier Sweet Rolls

  Sugar 2 Ounce
  Eggs 2
  Salt 1⁄2 Ounce
  Milk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Shortening 4 Ounce
  Flour 1 Pound
  Yeast 1 Ounce

Soften yeast in lukewarm water to cover.
Scald milk; add sugar, salt, and shortening.
When lukewarm add 1/2 of flour and beat thoroughly.
Add eggs, beaten, and the yeast.
Mix well.
Add flour to make nice smooth dough.
Turn out on floured board and knead well.
Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise to double in bulk.
Punch down.
Roll out dough on floured board to 1/4 inch thickness.
Spread as follows: Take soft butter and spread over the surface of dough; sprinkle with chopped pecans; cover with brown sugar; and roll up like jelly roll.
Cut in about 2-inch (thickness) slices.
Place each ring in a greased muffin ring.
Let rise.
Bake in oven at 430 degrees.
Walnuts or raisins may be used in the filling.
