Honey Date And Nut Rolls
|Risen rich milk dough||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Chopped pitted dates||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|Chopped walnuts||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Grated lemon rind||1 Teaspoon|
Roll out the dough to a rectangle 9 inches by 12 inches.
Melt the butter or margarine in a small pan and brush over the surface of the dough.
Put the dates and walnuts in a small pan with the honey and lemon rind.
Warm gently until the mixture is well blended.
Spread this mixture over the dough.
Roll up tightly across the width making a 12-inch roll and cut into 9 equal slices using a sharp knife.
Place, cut sides down, well apart on a greased baking sheet or into well greased muffin tins.
Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes in a warm place.
Bake just above the center of a moderately hot oven (375°F) for 20-25 minutes.
Transfer to a cake rack and glaze by brushing the tops of the rolls with a wet brush dipped in clear honey or with a sugar glaze while still hot.
Variation Replace the dates with raisins or chopped candied cherries.
