Butterscotch Krispie

Butterscotch Krispies are butterscotch flavored rice krispie treats. They are made with a mixture of rice krispies, melted butterscotch chips and peanut butter. Other ingredients like vanilla, shredded coconut and chopped walnuts or pecans can also be included in the dish. This crunchy snack is loved by children and adults alike. They are also called Butterscotch Rice Krispies Treats. A similar dish called 'butterscotch crispies' is made using oats and/ or corn flakes in place of rice krispies.

Ingredients and Preparation

Rice krispies, peanut butter and butterscotch chips are the basic ingredients required to make the dish. Rice krispies are a type of crisped rice marketed by Kellog's, which are made using a rice-and-sugar paste, which is cooked in grain like shapes and then dried and toasted. They are responsible for the crunchiness and crispness of the dish.

The peanut butter and butterscotch chips are mixed and melted in a pot over low heat, taking care not to burn. When the mixture has melted, rice krispies are gradually stirred in, mixing well to coat thoroughly. The mixture is then spread on a foil lined baking tray and refrigerated to set. It is then cut into squares and is ready to serve.
