Christmas Cookies (Pastini Di Natale)

Ingredients
  Sifted flour 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Salt 1 Pinch
  Baking powder 1 Tablespoon
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter/Margarine 62 1⁄2 Gram (0.25 Cup)
  Egg yolk 1 , slightly beaten
  Almond extract 1 Teaspoon
  Milk 125 Milliliter (0.5 Cup)
  Egg white 1
  Confectioner's sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Candied cherries 170 Gram, candied (1 Cup)
  Almonds 60 Gram, chopped (0.5 Cup)
Directions

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar.
Mix in butter or margarine with fingers.
Add egg yolk, almond extract and milk.
Mix to a firm ball.
Turn onto a floured board and knead for about five minutes.
Chill.
Roll out dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch (5 mm).
Cut into desired shapes and place on an ungreased cookie tin.
Beat egg white with sugar until foamy.
Brush on each cookie.
Decorate with candied cherries and chopped almonds.
Bake in a 375°F (190°C) oven for about ten minutes.
