Broiled Sweet And Sour Spare Ribs

  Lean spare ribs 3 1⁄2 Pound
  Onions 2 Large, sliced
  Brown sugar 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Vinegar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Soy sauce 1 Teaspoon
  Pineapple juice 2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)
  Water 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Cornstarch 1 Tablespoon
  Water 1 Tablespoon
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste

Preheat broiler.
Place spareribs close together on broiler pan and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Broil, turning once, until deep brown on both sides.
Place onions in Dutch oven, or large pot, with 2 tablespoons of pork drippings from broiler pan.
Saute onions for 2 minutes.
Add next seven ingredients and browned ribs.
Cover; simmer over low heat for 2 hours.
Remove ribs; thicken sauce with a paste of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water.
Return ribs to sauce.
Service while piping hot.
