Grandma's Sugar Raisin Cookies

Ingredients
  Seedless raisins 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Sugar 1
  Shortening 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

Simmer raisins in water to barely cover, until water is all absorbed.
Set aside to cool.
Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and vanilla; beat thoroughly.
Sift together the dry ingredients, except last sugar, and add to creamed mixture.
Stir in raisins.
Roll dough into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar.
Place balls 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets; flatten with bottom of sugar-dipped glass.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes until lightly browned.
