Sugar Plum Pudding

  Pitted dried prunes 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Ground allspice 1 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Buttermilk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Finely ground suet 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Raisins 1 Cup (16 tbs)

In a small bowl, soak prunes in hot water. Drain when ready to use. In large bowl of electric mixer, combine eggs and sugar; beat well until light and well blended. Sift together flour, soda, baking powder, salt, and spices. Add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in suet, prunes, and raisins. Steam for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until cake tester inserted in pudding comes out clean. Let pudding stand a few minutes after removing from cooker. Run knife or small spatula carefully around the edge of mold. Pudding should come out easily onto serving platter.
