Vanilla Pudding Sauce

  Butter 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Flour 2 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Pinch
  Sugar 2 Tablespoon
  Hot water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Vanilla 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Rich cream 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)

In top of double boiler or over low heat, melt butter. Stir in flour, salt, and sugar, and cook, stirring constantly, until thick. Gradually add hot water and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Add vanilla and cream and continue cooking, stirring constantly until mixture is thick and smooth. Serve over hot steamed pudding.
