Steamed Carrot Pudding

Ingredients
  Coarse dry bread crumbs 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Firmly packed light brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  All purpose flour 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Ground cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Ground allspice 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Egg 1
  Diced candied orange peel 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Golden raisins 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Grated pared carrot 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Potato 1 Cup (16 tbs), peeled, grated
  Chopped peeled tart apple 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter/Margarine 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Combine all ingredients in order given; mix well.
Pack into greased 1 1/2-quart pudding mold.
Cover and steam for 4 hours, or until done.
Serve warm, topped with hard sauce and a few strips of candied orange peel, if desired.
Makes 8 to 10 servings.
