Steamed Individual Fig Puddings

Ingredients
  Ground dried whole figs 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Shortening 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Granulated sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Eggs 2 , beaten
  Fruit juice/Milk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sifted all purpose flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Mace 1 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon
Directions

Rinse figs, dry on a towel, and clip stems before grinding.
Work shortening with a spoon until fluffy and creamy, add sugar, and continue to work with a spoon until light.
Add eggs and mix.
Add figs and stir to blend.
Add fruit juice or milk alternately with the flour which has been sifted with the salt, soda, and spices, and blend.
Add extract and stir to blend.
Pour into 10 greased or oiled custard cups.
Place in a steamer or on a trivet in a covered kettle containing; 1" of boiling; water, and steam on top of the range 45 min.
