Marmalade Breadcrumb Pudding

Ingredients
  Marmalade 4 Tablespoon
  Butter/Margarine 1 Ounce
  Milk 1 Pint
  Sugar 1 Ounce
  Breadcrumbs 1⁄2 Pint
  Eggs 3
  Castor sugar 4 Ounce
Directions

Butter a 2-pt. pie-dish and cover the bottom of the dish with a layer of marmalade.
Heat together the butter, milk and 1 oz sugar.
Add the breadcrumbs and leave to stand for about 10 min Beat together 1 whole egg and 2 egg yolks and stir well into the breadcrumb mixture.
Pour half the breadcrumb mixture into the dish; add another layer of marmalade, and put the remainder of the breadcrumb mixture on top.
Bake in a moderate oven (350° F., Gas 4) until the mixture is set.
Whip the egg whites stiffly, fold in the 2—4 oz castor sugar and pile on top of the pudding.
Dredge well with castor sugar.
Bake in a very cool oven (290° F., Gas 1) for about 20-30 min until the meringue is fawn and crisp.
