ln a medium-size saucepan, combine the prunes, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg.
Squeeze the juice from the lemon slice over the prunes, then add the lemon to the pan.
Add just enough waterto coverthe prunes.Bring to.a boil over moderate heat; then lower the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
Remove the lemon from the pan and discard.
Let cool, then transfer the prunes and liquid to a bowl; coverand refrigerate for up to 1 week.
