What Are The Healthy And Sweet Alternatives To Candy?

Candies with their sweet and chewy nature are like the wands, which weave magic once they go into your mouth. With kids doting on the sweet tooth stick(like a long-lost toy), it would do good  if you were to look for healthy and sweet alternatives to candy.
First let’s understand as to why candies are unhealthy. Candies usually have a high degree of sugar(fructose, maltose, dextrin and dextrose) and fat content,  apart from acid, artificial flavors and preservatives. It is therefore not surprising when you get the empty feel in your stomach even after consuming a dozen candies. Its because these pops have nil nutritional value with calories of no use. Which is why it becomes imperative to find alternatives to candy especially for kids, as their lifestyle is largely determined by what is preset in the growing years.

Those addicted to candies face the risk of becoming overweight and in the long run, getting struck by obesity. In the United States, more than 190 million people belong to the overweight or obese category and amongst these child obesity is rampant, having tripled over the last three decades. Now, the sweet candies, which are so much a kid’s first love in the world of chocolates, can prove to be harmful if eaten in excess.

So what are the healthy alternatives to candies so that the consumption can be confined to moderation?

•    Fruits : Sweet and delicious, fruits offer the crunch of health and bite of relish. Enriched with vitamins and antioxidants, fruits pave way for a flavorful, healthy living.

•    Fruit popsicles : If you are really eager to find a ‘mimic’ for your candies then fruit popsicles pitch in. Just pour fruit juice in ice cube trays, and freeze it. When partially frozen, place a toothpick in the middle and allow it to freeze completely. They are ready to be served chilled . Indulge your sweet tooth as fruit popsicles are healthy alternatives to candy.

•    Dried fruits : Enriched with fiber content and equally flavorsome, dried fruits make a very good snack item. Apricots, prunes, dried mangoes, dried apples, raisins… there is a wide variety of dried fruits to make your pick from.

•    Energy bars(homemade) : Homemade energy bars can be mulled over and munched  as healthy alternatives to candy. In a make of peanuts, oatmeal, rice cereal, sunflower seeds, raisins, with brown sugar, corn syrup, peanut butter, homemade energy bars surely deliver the health quotient.


The alternatives to candy as listed above gives you a  peek into what can actually be drilled out, if you venture to explore the options available. With the health fad catching on, it is not difficult to bump into chewables, which are healthy and ‘candied’  at the same time.
