Your first job would be to heat cooking oil in a fryer to 365 degrees F. Once you have done that, mix sugar, flour, cornmeal, salt and baking powder in a large bowl and stir in the bacon drippings. Next, dig a well in the center of the dough and put buttermilk, egg and baking soda in it. Then, mix the ingredients till you get a well blended smooth batter. Your next move would be to get the hot dogs ready. So, pat dry the hot dogs with paper towels to make the batter stick well to the hot dogs. Then, insert the wooden sticks into the ends of the hot dogs and dip the hot dogs in the batter, one by one. Now, deep fry the hot dogs till they turn brown. Finally, drain them on paper towels.
