Things required for making corn syrup:
2 cups sugar
3 cups water
1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter
Salt to taste
Sauce pan with lid
How to Make Corn Syrup
Step 1:  In a saucepan mix all ingredients over medium heat.
Step 2: Boil the mixture; then reduce heat and simmer.
Step 3: Put the lid on the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes
Step 4:  Uncover and cook by stirring the mixture frequently. To test if your homemade corn syrup is ready or not pour a little amount of corn syrup in a glass of cold water. If the mixture drops to bottom of water then it is ready. Well, if it doesn’t cook it for few more minutes.
Step 4: Cool the syrup. Always store the corn syrup at room temperature. Corn syrup will thicken as it cools. I will advice you not to store it for more than 2 months.
This is a very simplified version of making homemade corn syrup and worth trying!
1. Try using a small amount of corn syrup in cookies and cakes. This helps in improving the browning of the baked item.
2. Use three-quarters of a cup of corn syrup to fully substitute 1 cup of granulated or brown sugar in a recipe. It acts as a flavor enhancer.
