Dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
Mix the milk, shortening, salt and sugar in a bowl and cool to lukewarm.
Add the yeast and mix well.
Add enough flour to make a stiff dough and mix thoroughly.
Turn out on a floured board and knead for 5 to 10 minutes.
Place in a greased bowl and turn to grease surface.
Cover with a towel.
Let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, then punch down.

Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Roll each half out to a 12-inch circle and place on 2 greased pizza pans or cookie sheets.
Shape edge into a ridge.
