Rice And Noodle Pilaf

  Butter/Margarine 4 Tablespoon
  Noodles/Small pasta shells 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Quick 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Chicken broth/Water 500 Milliliter

Place the butter or margarine in a 4-cup (1 L) microwave-safe dish and melt 3 minutes at HIGH.
Add the fine noodles or pasta shells and the quick cooking rice.
Stir together until both are well buttered.
Add the salt and the hot chicken broth or water.
Microwave, uncovered, 6 minutes at HIGH.
Depending on the type of pasta used, it is sometimes necessary to microwave 1 or 2 minutes more or less.
This is a basic recipe that lends itself to many variations.
Variation 1: Add to the cooked pilaff 1 cup (250 mL) more or less of canned peas.
Variation 2: Dice an unpeeled tomato, sprinkle with a good pinch of sugar and basil.
Microwave 1 minute at HIGH.
Add to pilaff when adding the butter.
Stir well and finish cooking as in the recipe.
Variation 3: Slice thinly 1/2 pound (250 g) fresh mushrooms and 2 green onions.
Melt 1 tablespoon (15 mL) butter in a dish.
Add the mushrooms and green onions.
Stir well.
Microwave 1 minute at HIGH.
Pour over the rice and noodle pilaff just before cooking it.
Stir well.
Microwave according to time given for pilaff.
