Raisin Pie

Raisin Pie is a very traditional sweet pie with raisin filling baked on a double-crusted pie shell. Encased in flaky, buttery crust, the raisin pie filling is best made using fresh natural raisins, which is blended well into a mix consisting of brown sugar, corn starch, salt, butter and water. Raisin pies are often seen flavored with cinnamon, vinegar and salt, a perfect combination that can keep on check the sweetness of raisins. Vanilla extract and lemon juice are other flavorings that may be added to the pie. There is also a variety of raisin pie that is often seen served in Amish homes, which is commonly termed as Funeral pie.
