Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Pie is a hot American favorite, often served as a dessert pie, which is generally made sweet and very rich. Originally, the very conventional key lime pie recipe used key lime juice, egg whites, egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk to make the filling on the pie crust and gave an equally pleasing meringue topping. Although even the modern variations of the key lime pie mostly fall in the same line, for some reason avoids egg whites and go for variety toppings other than that of meringue. Otherwise popular as the Florida state pie and why not when the pie itself hails its from name the key limes found in Florida known as Florida Keys. When made, the key lime pie gives out the tart and aromatic flavor of the key lime and has a slightly yellow hue imparted by the pale yellow color of the key lime juice.

The juice extracted from it is pale yellow in color and is more aromatic than the common Persian limes found throughout the U.S. Key lime pies recipes are really popular and is a common dish prepared in many households. Depending on tastes and preferences there might be slight variations to the conventional Key lime pies recipes. Another interesting fact related to this particular dish is that on July 1, 2006, it was declared as the state pie for the state of Florida. This reflects on the kind of recognition this particular dessert enjoys in Florida as well as in the rest of the country too.
