Unsugared Apple Pie
|Double pie crust||1 (Homemade Or Store Bought)|
|Apples||12 Large, peeled, cored and coarsely chopped to make about 10 cups (Delicious Apples)|
|Dark raisins||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Walnuts||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), coarsely chopped|
|Unsweetened apple juice||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Instant tapioca/Quick cooking tapioca||1 Tablespoon|
Place oven rack in lowest position.
Preheat oven to 400°.
Line pie pan with bottom crust.
Fill crust with apples, raisins and walnuts.
In a small saucepan, heat juice, butter, tapioca and vanilla until butter melts.
Pour over apples.
Top with second crust.
Crimp edges and cut a steam hold in center of pie.
Bake at 400° for 50 minutes or until crust is browned.
Cool before cutting.
Virtue may, upon occasion, be compromised by serving this unsugared pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
