Zucchini Pickle Slices

Ingredients
  Zucchini 2 1⁄2 Pound, scrubbed, rinsed, and cut in 1/4 inch slices
  Onions 3⁄4 Pound, thinly sliced
  Cider vinegar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Salt 5 Tablespoon
  Celery seed 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground turmeric 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

Prepare vegetables and set aside.
Mix remaining ingredients in a heavy saucepan.
Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture comes to boiling.
Remove from heat.
Immediately add the vegetables; cover and let stand about 1 hour.
Meanwhile, sterilize 1 pint jars.
Leave them in the hot water until ready to fill.
Bring the vegetable mixture to boiling rapidly; reduce heat and cook gently, uncovered, about 3 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Pack vegetables into hot jars; add hot pickling liquid to within 1/2 inch of top, being sure that vegetables are completely covered.
Release air bubbles and adjust lids.
Work quickly, completing one jar at a time.
