Bread And Butter Pickles
|Mustard seed||2 Teaspoon|
|Vinegar||4 Cup (64 tbs), thinly sliced|
|Onions||12 Small, thinly sliced|
|Salt||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||4 Cup (64 tbs)|
|Turmeric powder||2 Teaspoon|
|Celery seed||1 Teaspoon|
Alternate layers of cucumbers, onions, salt and cracked ice in crock; let stand, covered, for 3 hours.
Combine sugar, vinegar and spices; bring to a boil.
Add cucumbers, mix well.
Simmer, stirring frequently, until mixture comes just to a boil; remove from heat.
Seal in hot sterilized jars.
