Perfect Poached Pears
|Water||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Sugar||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Vanilla bean/3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract||1|
|Bosc pears||14 Ounce|
1. Combine the water, sugar and vanilla bean in a microwave-safe 1-quart measure. Microwave on Full Power for 2 minutes, 25 seconds or until the mixture boils. Stir to blend.
2. Microwave, uncovered, on Full Power for 5 minutes more. Using pot holders, transfer the quart measure of hot syrup to a shielded countertop. Remove the vanilla bean. (If using the vanilla extract, stir in at this point.)
3. Using a swivel-bladed vegetable peeler, peel the skin from the pears, leaving the stems intact. Place each pear in a microwave-safe dessert dish. Squeeze lemon juice over each whole pear. Pour half the syrup over each pear. Loosely cover each with wax paper.
4. Microwave the pears on Full Power for 3 minutes. Using pot holders, transfer the dishes containing the pears to a shielded countertop.
