1. Pare the pears, then halve and core; place, cut-sides down, in a large skillet.
2. Sweeten water with your favorite no-calorie sweetener, using the equivalent of 12 teaspoons (1/4 cup) sugar in a cup; pour over pears; add cinnamon stick; cover.
3. Bring to boiling, then simmer 10 minutes, or just until pears are tender. Spoon into serving dishes; pour the cinnamon-flavored sauce over. Serve pears warm or chilled.
