|Freshly ground pepper||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
|Shelled fresh field peas||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
In a small skillet, saute the bacon until crisp.
Drain on paper towels and set aside.
In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
Add the salt, pepper, and any bacon drippings.
Add the peas, reduce the heat to moderately high, and cook until the peas are tender, about 30 minutes.
Drain and transfer to a serving bowl.
Crumple the cooked bacon over the peas just before serving.
