Turnips And Peas Au Gratin

Ingredients
  Turnips 12 Ounce (6 Medium Pieces)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Water 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Fresh peas/One 10-ounce package frozen peas 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Butter/Oil 2 Tablespoon
  Whole wheat flour/Water 1 Tablespoon
  Vegetable stock 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Grated cheddar cheese 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Whole wheat bread crumbs 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Peel turnips if necessary and cut into 1/2-inch cubes.
Cook in salted water until tender.
Drain, reserving liquid.
Using the same saucepan, cook peas in turnip liquid until tender.
Drain, reserving liquid.
Butter a casserole and add turnips and peas.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a small pan, heat butter or oil, add flour and stir until smooth.
Stir in 1 cup reserved vegetable stock or water.
Cook until thick, then pour over vegetables in casserole.
Mix grated cheese and crumbs and sprinkle evenly over mixture in casserole.
Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes.
