Filo Pastry

Filo pastry is flour dough made by rolling and alternating fat and dough layers. It is also called Phyllo or fillo. This variety of pastry is primarily used for making sweets and can be baked or fried. Once cooked, the pastry resembles puff pastry but since their method of preparation is quite different they are seldom substituted for each other. Uses of Filo Pastry Borek, Gollash, Byrek are the names given to filo pastry in Turkish, Egyptiina and Albenian cuisines respectively. Filo is manufactured mechanically and is available frozen in the market; filo pastry recipes can also be tried at home. The Pastry is used to make a variety of dishes by stuffing, layering or folding it. Baklava, a Turkish dessert, is by far the most famous dish made using filo. Savory stuffing like cheese, minced meat, vegetables, etc are also used to make filo pastry based snacks.
