Spicy Meat Filled Pastries

  Onion 1 Large, finely chopped
  Cooking oil 1 Tablespoon
  Ground round steak 1⁄2 Pound
  Crushed peanuts 1 Tablespoon
  Raisins 1 Tablespoon
  Green peas 2 Tablespoon
  Ginger 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Turmeric 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Sugar 2 Teaspoon
  Vinegar 1 Tablespoon
  Flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Shortening 4 Teaspoon
  Hot water 3 Tablespoon

Fry the onion in oil until light brown, then add the ground steak, peanuts, raisins, green peas, ginger, turmeric and 1 teaspoon salt.
Cook until beef is well browned.
Add 1/2 cup water and simmer until dry and peas are cooked.
Add the sugar and vinegar, mixing well.
Let stand until cool.
Mix the flour, remaining salt and baking powder together, then cut in shortening.
Add the hot water and knead well.
Shape into ball, then divide into 8 parts.
Roll each part into a thin circle, then cut into halves.
Place filling on each half and fold into triangular shape, pressing edges to seal.
Fry in hot deep fat until golden brown.
Serve hot.
